What Can You Do?

"Contributor" is a pretty vague term. Contributors can do everything from write an article or tutorial about webcomics, photoshop, html, css, (you get the idea), to creating an image for our next cover. Regardless of what you want to do, make sure you review the guidelines for joining and fill out the application there first. Participating in the forums are also a pretty good idea. The reason we ask you to do this is so we know who's available to do what for each issue.

Writers

Whether you're writing an article or a tutorial, you need to follow these basic guidelines:

  1. Unless you type perfectly in the forum, your "cute" 'net slang and typing skillz are not going to cut it for a piece of written work. This means using capitalization, spell-check, and punctuation.
  2. Editors are not spell-checkers/ghost-writers/psychic. We will not write (or rewrite) your article for you.
  3. Don't submit finished articles without first discussing what you plan on doing with an editor. Don't waste your time writing something we won't publish. Join the forum FIRST. Fill out the application form and include your idea for an article. We'll discuss it with you and decide if it's a piece we'll want to run in the next issue.
  4. Communicate. Writer's block? Family emergency? School work piling up? There are millions of reasons you won't be able or willing to do stuff for ST, even if you really wanted to do it when you signed up. Whatever the reason, please communicate with an editor about it, (even if you're having a problem with another editor/staff member!).

Artists

We want your original artwork on our cover.

  1. Image must be 440px x 600px
  2. Image must have space for text -- either the image is lightly colored on the side or bottom side, or it must have blank space on the side. Either side is acceptable.
  3. Image must have NO text/logos, (an artist signature placed discreetly is both acceptable and appropriate).
  4. If submitting via email, please include a link to your SmackJeeves profile page along with your image.

Keep in mind we frequently have contests for cover art, and sometimes specify additional requirements. Check in the forum for current contests.

Other

Have something else you want to do for ST that I haven't mentioned here? Have ideas and suggestions? Let us know!
