I don't need to tell you what an amazing issue this is. The first issue of Smack Talk is an achievement in and of itself; We succeeded in making something that many members of Smack Jeeves didn't think was possible. Not only did we do that, we got those same community members and many others to rally and contribute to the first cover contest.
As of this writing, I don't know who the winner is, so I can't say much about the cover, but we've got some amazing talent participating in the competition. It's been really difficult voting for just one person -- the variety and quality of art is incredible, and it's an honor and a challenge to be in a position to judge it. Luckily, I'm one of four judges, so it isn't entirely my responsibility. It's been a crazy few months getting this project off the ground. The Smack Talk staff is comprised of some very talented and dedicated people -- all of whom have busy lives and unique personalities. Contending with all of these elements has been challenging, but ultimately rewarding, and I think this issue is a testament to that. Inside, you'll see some fantastic interviews, read some reviews of great comics, and have the opportunity to peruse some entertaining and informative articles. While you're reading this issue, we're already busy working on the next one, and planning the third. In December, we'll have another cover contest that will be posted on the Smack Jeeves forum, so keep an eye out for that if you want to participate. (Hint: the theme will not be christmas or holiday related). Remember, while we've put a lot of work into this project, there wouldn't be a Smack Talk without the Smack Jeeves community. Thank you. ![]() Cutething Editor in Chief of Smack Talk |
